Foundation Repair Contractors

If your house or any part of your property experiences foundation failure, it is not a job you want to correct yourself. In order to do this properly you would have to be extensively trained and have a fast knowledge on the subject. This is not your everyday fixer upper project. Chances are to get the job done right; you are going to need to hire a professional. If you are like some people, this might make you a little uneasy. After all, how many times have you heard about contractors taking advantage of their customers? Some not so ethical contractors will charge you more than the job is worth. If you are a little uneasy calling in a professional, here are some basic guidelines for what to expect from a good foundation repair contractor.

The first thing any foundation repair contractor should do is an initial investigation and then a foundation failure report to some extent. Report will explain how severe the problem is and list the proposed repairs needed. If they are going to have to pier, they much included pier spacing and foundation lines in the reports. This takes some time. It might not be a one visit evaluation. A foundation repair contractor may have to come out, do an investigation and then present you with a formal report at a later time that will detail all the work. If you find a contractor who quotes you a price right then and there, chances are they are not a good one. Also do not be surprised if you are charged a fee for the inspection and the report. Most fees range from a few hundred to almost $1000 dollars. Make sure you ask if that fee will be deducted from the final price of the job once ordered. A qualified and ethical contractor will tell you yes. If they say no...stay away from them

Once the investigation is done and a report is ready, a reliable foundation repair contractor will go through it with you and give you the quoted price. They will also explain that quote and answer any questions you may have. If you are getting quotes by a few foundation repair contractors, bear in mind that the prices should not vary much if they are all doing the same work. This is because the materials should pretty much be the same price for all foundation repairmen. One of the possible reasons for the difference of prices between contractors is the amount of experience they have. A knowledgeable, skillful and experienced contractor might cost a little more money than one who has less experience. Keep this in mind when considering the cheapest contractor. Ask questions about their experience to help ensure you are making the best decision for you, your house and your budget.

Once all the work has been done, you should be given a report that contains all the hydraulic measurements and depths regarding the piers. This report should be saved as it will come in handy if you ever decided to sell you house.

Having foundation failure fixed is a costly project, but by following these guidelines, you will be able to find a foundation repair contractor that you are confident with. Make sure they are one who take pride in their work and are not looking for the quick buck.

Steps to Creating Safe Deck Railings

Railings are the most visible element of any deck. They make an instant design statement for all to see and admire from a distance and close up. Deck railings do more than add a safety feature to a deck. They establish the style and limits of the deck space itself. Local building code standards won't affect the nearly endless number of deck design choices and construction choices to be used. Railings are not necessary on all decks but when they are, usually because of the deck's height above ground level, it is important to make a wise choice as to their design and structure.

Step #1 - Deck Height:

Railings are generally required for decks over 36 inches high above ground level and for any set of stairs. However, 24 inches might be a better minimum because in today's society people are more likely to sue a homeowner in the event of a fall. All it takes is one too many drinks and no railing for an accident to occur. In many cases the injured parties who launch these lawsuits are relatives or friends who just happen to be the individuals most likely to be on your deck. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Step #2 - Railing Height:

Railings are generally 36 to 42 inches above a deck's surface. They can be as low as 30 inches or as high as 48 inches depending upon the height of the deck above ground level. The rule of thumb is: The higher the deck; the higher the railing. This is all done for safety considerations. Deck railings can have wood, vinyl or aluminum balusters as well as louvers. They can be built with solid facings that can include plywood siding, plastic panels or tempered glass. However, they need to be a safe height above the level of the deck.

Step #3 - Railing Construction:

Railings are made up of vertical posts capped and joined by a cross member laid flat. The cross member may be the same width or wider than the posts. The spacing distance between the posts depends upon the cap's size and the horizontal rail's length. For example, 4x4 posts can be spaced up to 4 feet apart under a 2x4 cap while 4x4 posts can be spaced up to 6 feet apart under a 2x6 cap.

The strongest and simplest railings are those with horizontal parts secured by bolts or screws to the outside faces of the posts. For a cleaner, more streamlined railing, the horizontals would be placed between the posts. Building codes specify the maximum space between balusters, often 4 inches. Screws and bolts are always a better choice for the construction of railings.

Railings should coordinate with the architectural style of the home in some way. This can be done in terms of materials used, detailing and connections. It is important to check with local building code bylaws to clearly determine the requirements in terms of railing height, material types, lumber sizes, distances between support posts and distances between balusters.

The important things to do in the building of deck railings are to create a railing that complements your overall deck design, to comply with local building codes and to take the time to do the job as well as possible. In no time you'll have a railing system in place on your deck that will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Vinyl Shutters - Home Improvement Spruce-Up With A Shutter Installation

Incorporating vinyl shutters into your home interior design transforms you into a master manipulator of light and shadow, while outdoor vinyl shutters add color and brightness to the exterior of your family's living quarters. A dramatic improvement in curb appeal is one of the main benefits of a quality vinyl window shutter installation.

Revamping Windows With Interior Vinyl Shutters

Interior vinyl shutters are a favorite among do-it-yourself remodeling enthusiasts, due to the straightforward installation process. Kits include fully assembled window shutters, except in the case of more sizeable custom shutters. You also receive all the shutter hardware and components needed for a successful DIY project. However, if heavy-duty hinges, screws, hanging strips, and filler strips sound like a foreign language to you, it may be advisable to call in the experts.

Well-crafted vinyl shutters should b2238e manufactured from exterior grade vinyl, with the characteristic smooth finish, that ensures permanent, fresh color without fading, peeling, or scratching. In contrast to wood shutters, these window coverings are not prone to warping, and nasty surface cracks won't appear overnight. Aluminum reinforcements add strength, especially in larger shutters.

Bathroom and kitchen remodeling call for a window treatment suitable for high humidity areas. The moisture resistant properties of vinyl shutters make them ideal companions for the windows in these rooms. Vinyl shutters also sport superb insulation qualities, enhancing energy efficiency. The insulation also contributes to a reduction in outside noise interference.

Interior vinyl shutters are designed for windows of all shapes and sizes. Patio doors and French doors can also be softened with shutters. Look for shutters that brandish blades of a reasonable thickness, especially if the shutter is fairly wide. The tilt bar, which should include an adjustable tension screw, must have a smooth action. The durability of the shutter, and its ease of use, depend largely on this small, yet vital component.

Choose shades and styles that complement your interior paint colors, soft furnishings, and other aspects of your home interior design. If your idea is to install a product with a wood-like appearance, make sure that the louvers are opaque. This will also maximize the light filtering ability of the vinyl shutter.

A Flair Fix With Outdoor Vinyl Shutters

Curb appeal has to do with a variety of factors, such as gardening and landscaping, paint finishes, patio ideas, and awnings. Fixed vinyl shutters have the potential to upgrade the aesthetic appeal of your property drastically, with a minimum of fuss.

If you don't require functional shutters, outdoor vinyl shutters are an inexpensive alternative to wooden shutters. Available in every imaginable hue, these elegant, fixed shutters feature styles such as louvered, raised panel, and board and batten. Modern technology ensures color that remains bright, with no chipping or fading.

Functional, hinged designs for sun protection are also available, but these are only usable during stable, calm weather. Extensive warranties accompany well-crafted, low-maintenance vinyl shutters, attesting to their durability.

Transform a run-down veteran into a vivacious dame, with the magical touch of vinyl shutters.

Forget Success Be a Failure

Yep

You read that right!

Now before you lose your mind, let me explain.

You see, generally, people have a tendency to shoot for success or the positive side of things and forget the negative.

It doesn't matter if your goal is business success or a personal life goal.

When people reach their goal, they jump for5B4 joy butwhen something unexpected or negative happens, they start pointing fingers or become disgusted, upset and pretty much give up.

They say things like, "Yeah maybe this wasn't meant for me."

Or my favorite, "Well I tried and it didn't work out!"

Well the question I always ask is WHY?

Why didn't it work out or why isn't it meant for you?

Now you might just think from the title of this article that I'm about to tell you that these people are failures and if you feel the same then you're a failure too.

No way!

The fact is that it takes Failure to be a Success.

Maybe you should read that again.

It's okay to study failure, YOUR failures and the failures of others and look for the golden nuggets of knowledge that are built into them.

Success is inherent in failure. So seeking failure and analyzing what happened or reversing the process that lead to that failure you will find the cause of that failure.

All you have to do is look. Keep in mind you must look for it openly and without prejudice.

The truth of the matter is that you now know or understand the truth about success and it is Failure.

Failure is a greater asset to most than they care to realize.

Only when you knowingly give up on your dreams or desires do you truly become a real failure.

Failure is the key to finding and building the road to success. The Truth About Success: Forget Succe5B4ss, Be a Failure!

Seek success and learn from failure and you will achieve greatness!

Bathroom on a Budget

The bathroom is frequently one of the most neglected and forgotten rooms in our homes, despite the fact that they are often one of the rooms we use the most. Since it is also a room that we spend ample amounts of time in, who doesn't want a bathroom that doubles as a relaxing spa-like getaway? Making your bathroom into a tranqu1C75il retreat can be done with less work and money than you think. Without making major changes, you can create a relaxing bathroom for next to nothing. Find out how...

Repaint

Simply repainting any room can give it a whole new look and feel since color plays a huge role in the overall statement a room conveys. Neutral colors convey calm and quiet and "soft" colors create a relaxing environment. On the other hand, strong and bright colors create a lively and inspiring mood. For example, blue shades (highly popular for bathrooms) are calming and relaxing while greens are soothing. Warm colors such as yellows, creams, and peaches provide comfort and warmth, and also provide good reflection for the skin.

Select a color that conveys the feeling you want in the room, whether stimulating, relaxing, or peaceful. Keep in mind that certain colors can make a room feel smaller or darker, so choose your colors wisely.

Re-Accessorize

Another inexpensive way to upgrade? Re-accessorize! Meaning, add a new shower curtain, new window treatments, and new wall hangings. If you have adequate space and light, try adding a plant or two. Adding new accessories can give the bathroom an updated, more modern look.

New Fixtures

While this may not be as inexpensive as the previous tips, it is another great way to give your bathroom a redo without making any major or structural changes. Simply updating the sink fixtures or installing a more modern toilet will make the bathroom more appealing. Consider getting new bath furniture such as a new vanity or mirror.

Why Would You Hurt Yourself Like This

Everybody knows that if you stick your hand in a fire you're going to be burned. This is a fact that was branded in our minds since childhood, therefore we usually take special precautions when dealing with fire. You wouldn't intentionally burn yourself because you are aware of the pain and discomfort it will cause you.

But what if I told you that you could be causing yourself and even more painful and deeper discomfort?

What I'm referring to is the pain and suffering caused by holding on to a unforgiving spirit.

A common misconception that people believe is they have a right to be unforgiving based on the amount of pain that was caused to them. Also since they feel alot of pain every time they think about what happened it's only logical to hold on to that resentment.

It seems right not to accept the guilty parties apology and sometimes they never apologize, but I'm here to tell you today that forgiveness is for you not them! It's so you can move on with your life and not dwell in the past on things that are not E5Epraiseworthy.

Holding on to unforgiveness is very painful to the unforgiving person and alot of times causes you to experience sleeplessness and stress which in turn could make you sick.

In addition it makes you meditate on angry thoughts toward the person who did you wrong which could lead to hatred.

Hebrew 12:14 "Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."

Beyond a shadow of doubt, our spiritual enemy, the devil, will try to get us into a state of unforgiveness so that he can have an advantage in our life.

He will remind us of past hurts that occurred months, weeks or even years ago, if that will work for him. What he is trying to do is to get us to ponder them long enough so that we will act out on them. To "resist" these thoughts is to resist the devil.

I know first hand from my own personal experiences that the above statements are true and terrible, but the worst part of all is that unforgiveness keeps the all mighty, all knowing, all powerful, most high God from forgiving you!

In Matthew 18:21-35 The man who received personal forgiveness but refused to forgive the man who owed him a mere "hundred denarii's," was labeled a "wicked servant" because he was forgiven his debt which was far more than the debt he refused to forgive.

The power of forgiveness is immeasurable. It is a power that Jesus used often and even delegated to his followers.

Luke 17:3-4 "Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying I repent, you shall forgive him".

God loves us very much and is very forgiving, even when we make mistakes. God gives us chances to work on our behavior and be the best we can be. When you pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Matthew 6.14-15 "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

In conclusion, to be unforgiving is to: anger God (Mt. 18:34), to give the devil an advantage in your life (2 Cor. 2:10,11), to conform to this wicked generation (2 Tim. 3:3), not to walk in love (1 Cor. 13:5), to stop God from forgiving you (Mt. 6:14,15) and to negate your own salvation (Mt. 18:32,34,35;).

The Motivation Myth

"It is the ultimate management conceit that we can motivate people." Peter Scholtes, team effectiveness consultant and author

After six years at Universal Pictures, Harry Cohn formed Columbia Pictures in 1924. During the following decades he ran the company with an iron fist. His image as a tyrant was reinforced by the riding whip he kept near his desk to crack for emphasis. Cohn form of "motivation" led to the greatest creative turnover of any major studio. At his funeral in 1958, one observer suggested that the thirteen hundred attendees "had not come to bid farewell, but to make sure he was actually dead."

Some parents want their kids to be independent as long as they do everything they're told to. Some team leaders want their teams to be empowered as long as they follow directions. What some "leaders", call "motivation" is getting others to carry out their orders. Some seem to live by the philosophy that if I want any of your bright ideas I'll give them to you. Just do what you're told...and look like you're enjoying it. These forms of "motivation" are based on fear and force. If the punishment is strong enough and the policing rigid enough, they will lead to compliance. People will follow the rules and marching orders. But that's all. Energy, creativity, and extra effort will be minimal. So will ownership and commitment. The only passion tyrants and autocrats create are fear, loathing, and the desire for revenge.

The key problems of the Motivation Myth are clearly illustrated by a Farcus cartoon; a team leader is at the head of a conference table addressing her team with these words, "we need to improve morale, any of you boneheads have a good idea." The main cause of the problem seems pretty obvious. She just needs to look in the mirror. But obviously the obvious isn't always so obvious. Root causes and symptoms are continuously confused. The Farcus team leader is treating low morale as a problem to be solved rather than an indicator of much deeper issues. Clearly a key source of a deeper problem is her contempt for her team and her forcefulness. Her approach is like an auto mechanic reporting, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Many of the symptoms and root causes of motivation and morale can be clarified by understanding the doing versus being aspects of mobilizing and energizing. We need to get beyond "do to" programs and techniques. The big sticks of fear, punishments, and discipline or the carrots of incentives and rewards may work in the short term. But to keep them working, we need to continually increase the beatings or sweeten and vary the incentives. Eventually the beatings will burn people out and they will quit. Some will leave and find other jobs. Many will silently resign and continue to report for work everyday.

People should be fairly rewarded for their contributions. The absence of money can be demotivating, but its presence doesn't provide healthy, long-term motivation. Using money or types of incentives to get increased performance turns people into selfish, self-centered mercenaries who are increasingly tuned into WIFM (what's-in-it-for-me). Pride, teamwork, concern for customers, shared values, growing and developing, passion, meaningful work, and the like fade. These become hollow words that raise "the snicker factor" whenever they are heard.

Effective mobilizing and energizing goes well beyond "doing" programs to the "being" or culture of a team, organization, or any group including a family. That culture is a set of shared attitudes and accumulated habits around "the way we do things here." The culture provides the context or backdrop that either energizes or exhausts people.

What A Remodeling Job Will Actually Cost You

Unless you moved into a custom designed and built home, like you, most California homeowners have thought about putting an addition on their home, or having their kitchen or bathroom remodeled. Having a dream kitchen or bathroom, is a natural thought that, believe it or not, isnt just for the rich and famous. Most anyone can make their remodeling dream a reality, with the right planning that is.

There are many factors to take into account when planning for your new home renovation or addition. If thought through thoroughly, and planned for correctly you can keep your home improvement project on your desired budget and running smoothly. The last thing any homeowner wants is to have to spend thousands of extra dollars to complete a project they had a limited budget for.

Here is a list of things to keep in mind when creating your budget:

  • Design Costs Before you even think about what materials or hardware you are going to need, your new bathroom/kitchen/addition needs to have blueprints drawn. Some contractors do this for free and some charge extra for this initial step. Make sure you pick a contractor that is reputable, and knows what they are doing. Stay clear of contractors that tell you they dont need blueprints, or who dont go through the design process with you step-by-step.
  • Materials This will be the most substantial part of your budget. Your choice in materials can change the cost of your remodel by thousands of dollars. Keep different options in mind when deciding between all your various materials. There can be big differences between hard wood, laminate, tile, stone, oak, granite, pine, etc. Try to find a good balance between style and affordability.
  • Size Will walls need to be taken down or built for your new room? Will you keep existing cabinet framing and reface the rest, or do you plan on completely new custom cabinetry? Plan on whether or not you will be demolishing the old room completely or using existing framing, piping and electrical.
  • Hardware This refers to the finishing touches in your new room, and can really add a significant cost to your project. Take your time to look for the right faucets, shower heads, sinks, appliances (stove, microwave, oven, refrigerator), door handles, mirrors, etc. Again, you want to keep the style you are looking for, but also look for inexpensive alternatives and discounted products to save you money in the end.
  • Timing Most, if not all, remodeling jobs are going to take a while. Be sure to schedule your project during a time when you will be able to occasionally leave work to go over progress, and be ready to answer any questions that might come up. No matter how well you plan in the beginning you will need and want to be involved at some point during the actual build.
These are the major aspects of a home remodeling, renovating or addition project, which all play a major part in the budget of your job. Try to account for every possible aspect of the project, keeping a list of various costs to ensure you know what to expect as a final price. There are a select few good online services, which will match you with contractors in your area. Two of which who use a very strict pre-screening service are All Around the Home and CalFinder. Affordable Kitchen Renovation With Granite Counter Resurfacing

Kitchen Renewal That Suits To Your Pocket:

There are some basic steps you need to take when you decide to renovate your kitchen. Here I will present to you a quick overview of what you need to do when renovating your kitchen; you will find more details throughout this website. The first step is, of course, deciding on your goals for the kitchen. What do you want your remodel to accomplish for you?

You'll want to do some research even at this early stage. What kinds of materials will you want to use for countertops? Granite is hugely popular, as is Siltstone, which is made from natural quartz and comes in a huge range of colors. What kind of wood do you want for your cabinets, and how light or dark should they be? What about flooring? Then you have to consider which appliances will need to be replaced, how you want the room painted, lighting and any major changes in the layout of your kitchen.

From Where To Start:

Of course, there's one more very important goal for you to consider - your budget! How much will you want to spend? Will you want to get a home equity loan for your remodel or have you saved money up for this project? Now you will want to start sketching out your ideas. You don't need to be a great artist; just 16B5get some graph paper, pen or pencil and a ruler and start mapping things out. Of course, if you are more technologically inclined, you can do this on the computer as well if you have the right software.

Generally speaking, you will want your refrigerator, stove and sink to form a triangle in your kitchen. Include plenty of walking space and room for eating. Will you want an island in your kitchen or will that just be in the way? How will the table fit? You'll also want to look at where outlets are, keeping in mind where you plan on placing your appliances. You may have to move outlets or plumbing if you're rearranging your layout. Don't forget to consider installing extra outlets.

Make sure your sketches include dimensions. Whether you're doing it yourself or hiring professionals, accurate dimensions will help you plan well and give the best feel a paper sketch can give for how your kitchen will look. Many home improvement stores will have kitchen designers on their staffs, and this is a resource you should take advantage of. They'll go over your plans with you and possibly have ideas you haven't considered.

Mull Over You Pocket And Choice:

When the time comes to place your order, make sure your measurements are very, very accurate or you will have a terrible time with your kitchen remodel. You can have professionals come out and do the measurements for you. In fact, if you are having your cabinets and countertops professionally installed, you WILL have professionals out taking measurements. If your measurements are accepted by the store without question and without sending out their own people, you will probably want to shop elsewhere. You're spending too much money on remodeling your kitchen to take that kind of chance.

Your cabinets will, of course, be installed before your new countertops. In fact, until your cabinets are installed, they can't even start work on your countertops if you have chosen granite or Siltstone (or other stone) countertops because they need to make a template. Ask for temporary countertops and a sink to be installed so that you aren't eating out the entire time you're waiting for your countertops to be cut. It might take weeks.

Do It Yourself Sauna Kit

Today, many do-it-yourselfers are choosing to purchase sauna kits as opposed to pre-built models. Not only does this save money, it allows them to customize their sauna in a variety of ways.

Most dealers offer sauna kits in either clear or knotty grade cedar. Typically, paneling is included as an exterior finish. But, cedar can be substituted, if desired. (This will raise the price of the kit.)

Basically, there are two types of sauna kits. A traditional sauna kit contains all of the inside materials needed to construct a sauna. It is, then, up to the builder to frame the sauna, insulate it and finish the exterior...in whatever style he or she chooses.

It is also up to the builder to attach this type of sauna to the walls and ceiling, assemble the benches and hang the door, as well.

Traditional sauna kits, such as these, can be constructed in 14-20 hours. They are intended to be permanent structures.

Prefabricated sauna kits are factory assembled and then disassembled, before shipping or purchase. This type of kit needs no additional insulation or framing of any kind. The walls are self-supporting and no special tools are needed to assemble it.

On average, it takes 2-3 hours from start to finish. Prefabricated sauna kits can be disassembled and then reassembled, at any time.

Although not recommended, it is possible to obtain all materials needed to build a sauna, at a home supply store. This may save money, but in the long run it is a much more difficult process.

Purchasing a sauna kit ensures the boards are cut properly and there is no waste, in regard to excess lumber. Hard-to-find items such as moldings and door casings are included. Building a sauna from a kit almost guarantees unnecessary visits, to the local lumber yard or home shop, in search of missing materials.

All sauna kits come with step-by-step instructions, which are easy to understand. Whether you are a licensed contractor or just an average homeowner, you will find that building a sauna from a kit is easy to do.

Probably the most difficult thing to accomplish is the actual framing. But, once that is completed, the rest of the assembly is quite simple and goes quickly.

For those who feel the job of framing is something they would rather not attempt, a prefabricated sauna kit is the best option.

Thomas Oak writes articles for http://www.hot-sauna.com/ if you are in the market for a 2EDnew home sauna stop and take a look at what of all the latest information on new saunas and sauna kit for your home.

Anxiety Depression Self Help - 7 Ways Towards Stress Relief

It has been a vicious cycle for you: every time change happens in your life, you feel anxious, then depressed. You don't like the feeling because it prevents you from functioning properly, in the office and at home. You shut yourself away from friends and people that you love. And in doing so, you feel sadder than ever.

However, did you know that it is possible to treat yourself from anxiety and depression without medications? Many people have done anxiety depression self help and they have been successful in doing it. You can, too, with these seven ways to a stress-free life.

1. Condition yourself everyday that change is inevitable.

This is hard to do and may cause you to be more depressed than you already are. Yet, this method is the best medicine that you can ever have for a successful anxiety/depression self help. Mind conditioning has been one of the most effective formulas that athlete mentors and sports coaches have used to motivate athletes to push harder and create a winner mindset during a game. You can do it, too.

If you regularly condition yourself that change will always come into your life, time will come that you will never get depressed or feel anxious whenever new things, both good and bad, come your way because your mind will have adapted to the inevitability of change.

2. Talk to someone when anxiety or depression strikes.

It is alright to let someone know how you feel. A friend or a family member can understand you better and would know it when the blues come. They would know when to calm you down and remove depressing thoughts out of your mind. Also, it has been tested by psychiatrists that talking things out is one of the best methods for anxiety depression self help.

3. Run the treadmill during the "bluest" of times.

Studies have shown that those who are in their saddest state have low levels of happy hormones. Run the treadmill when depression strikes. Don't think; just run. Let the cadence of running fill your thoughts; let the sweat that trickles down your forehead occupy your time. This anxiety depression self help saves you from buying "uppers" to make you happy.

4. When you feel sluggish, work out. When you feel hyperactive, have a tea party.

Your body may react differently when you feel depressed. You might feel sluggish or hyperactive. When you feel so low and down, let your body work so that it will release "happy" hormones. How To Get Instant Self Esteem And Self Confidence In The Next 15 Minutes!

Sounds a little shallow doesn't it ... 'instant self esteem'.

As if somehow we have managed to package up a 'magic pill' that will simply do all the work for us.

And yet both you and I do exactly that, daily, and without missing a beat. In fact, we take it completely for granted!

Such is the power of the unconscious mind and our own 'programming'.

"'Programming'?", I hear you say? "I would never allow myself to be programmed. That brainwashing stuff is for cult leaders and the secret service." I guess it is certainly a truism that when a powerful influence technique is discovered, it only takes a short while before it can fall into the wrong hands.

But what if you did have a magic button, which when you pressed it, fired up your 'self confidence software' instantly and got you ready for action? And what if you were able to replicate this at will? That would be useful wouldn't it! And it really is such a simple skill already used by ...

  • Top performing athletes to access a winning mindset
  • Top entertainers before a performance
  • Actors to get into role
  • Coaches all over the world to turn around a team that is having a tough match
And yet still, it is not taught at school, or even generally well-known among the self help gurus. Which is a shame really.

So hang onto your hats, because I will teach it to you right now, for free, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. Just promise me you will use it for good and not for evil OK?

Your Conditioning

Firstly let's take a look at how our pre-existing conditioning works. The 'stimulus-response'.

  • When you are 5B4driving and you see a red light what do you do? (No ... that's naughty and you know it)
  • When you come home from work or college, do you change your clothes? If so, how do you feel afterward?
  • When you get up in the morning, do you have a shower? And how do you feel after that?
  • What do you do when you hear your favorite song on the radio?
  • How does fresh bread baking smell?
  • If you hear your name spoken across the other side of the room, what do you do?
If you are like most people, you probably recognized a straightforward, even standardized response to these questions.

  • We stop at red lights because we have learned this is what you do.
  • We change our clothes on coming home from work because somehow it feels good and denotes the end of the working day.
  • If you are someone who showers in the morning (this is my personal example!), afterward it feels as if you are 'ready to start the day'.
  • When you hear your favorite song on the radio, do you turn it up, start dancing or start singing? Or all 3!
  • Doesn't fresh bread baking somehow make you feel nice and draw you to it?
  • And when you hear your name being spoken, do you look over to see where and who it came from? (And if it really was you they were talking about!)
These are literally just a few examples of how we are 'stimulus-response' conditione21EAd every day. I'm sure you can think of many many more. (What about when the telephone rings ... do you answer it? See! You're already brainwashed! ;)

But most of this has happened by accident right?

Wrong.

It was all learned behavior.

We just didn't necessarily consciously decide to learn it.

And there lies the secret to unlocking your inner power. Once you learn to take control of your own stimulus response conditioning you'll be absolutely amazed at just how powerful it is. And I can think of no more powerful examples than that of The Government and The Advertising Industry.

They both know exactly how to harness the power of stimulus response. For example:

  • "Just Say No"
  • "Just Do It"
You know exactly where these phrases originated and what they are about. You can probably remember the people promoting or advertising them and most likely a brand logo or two. Stimulus response conditioning is an exceptionally powerful tool, which is why both Advertisers and Governments like it.

"Enough already!", you say, "How can I use this to get Instant Self Esteem? Tell me right now!!"

Oh OK then!

How to use this to get Instant Self Esteem

Let's first learn some very important terms. You'll need these to help you set up the whole process ... but don't be concerned, it's really easy!

Initial Stimulus

Trigger Stimulus

Response State

Initial Stimulus

This is a specific element of the negative state (or low self esteem/self confidence feeling you have). It is NOT NECESSARILY a complete description of what you want to change ... just a highly identifiable and unique part of it.

For example:

I have to give a project-status presentation to my boss tomorrow and I have just found out about it today. I am experiencing an increase in my heart rate, some nervous muscular jitters, my jaw starts to clench with worry.

In my mind I see myself in front of her missing all my relevant points, messing up my carefully prepared bullet points and with the wrong clothes on for the task.

I can hear myself saying to myself, "Oh heck! That's not enough time, I mean I needed more notice, I'll have to stay late tonight to even be ready, that sucks, my wife will kill me 'cos it's our anniversary, what do I know about this project anyway, she'll just chew me out ..." and on and on and on it goes.

Feeling good? ... Not.

So in this example we'll use the 'clenched jaw' as a very specific Initial Stimulus. I'll come back to that later.

Trigger Stimulus

This is a very specific and 100% unique trigger that you can use just like you would select a specific program on your computer, or wear a very specific item of clothing that helps you feel good.

Some examples? Sure ...

  • Pinching your left top earlobe with your thumb and index finger.
  • Thinking of the word MYPOWERUP.
  • Hearing the sound of large church bells playing happy birthday.
  • Seeing (or imagining in your mind's eye) a large pile of $100 bills on your desk.
Absolutely critical to your success is that this Trigger Stimulus is NEVER used for anything else. It is totally unique to getting you instant self esteem. It has no other purpose. The more specific and precise, yet meaningful to you, the action, the better.

Response State

This is your highly desired state to be in. Feeling good about yourself, confident and happy. (Yes, yes, I know it doesn't seem real and that you think that the problem is that you don't feel good about yourself or confident or happy, but that's the point! Stay with me on this.)

Now how do you really want to feel? Mediocre, on top of the world, or higher? Good. Then let's practice that first.

First let's list as many of the times that you have felt really good. They may have been ...

  • Receiving praise
  • The birth of a child
  • Moving to a new house
  • Winning a new job/promotion/raise
  • Passing/finishing an exam
  • Finishing cleaning the house
  • Enjoying a great movie/book
  • Hearing or dancing to your favorite song
  • Falling in love
  • Going on holiday somewhere special
Get as many as you can remember. Doesn't matter if it is only two. But more than one is important. 5 or more works best.

OK now make sure no-one is looking and that you have 10 minutes to yourself.

Let's have a party in your mind! Imagine you are experiencing RIGHT NOW all of the remembered events.

You are now feeling the most happy, confident, zesty, delighted, strong, assured, capable, that you have EVER felt.

But don't stop there.

Now 'turn it up'.

Can you AMPLIFY this feeling until it becomes the most over- the-top ridiculous 'on top of the world sensation'? (Yes it is fake, it doesn't matter ... you'll see!)

NOW SIMULTANEOUSLY ACTIVATE YOUR TRIGGER STIMULUS
WHILST HAVING THIS PARTY!

Well done.

Now do this again another 3 times. (The first is just for practice). The trick is to 'do' your unique Trigger Stimulus right at the time you are peaking out on the 'remembered happiness state'.

OK, now let's test this first part.

Activate your unique Trigger Stimulus NOW.

You should immediately experience the happiness state starting to come flooding back AUTOMATICALLY.

Now say to yourself in a robotic voice, "I am now programmed for success."

Good. Now we need to link it to your Initial Stimulus.

Let's say that every time I feel somewhat un-confident or unworthy, I get that feeling of 'clenching my jaw tight' ... my specific and unique Initial Stimulus.

Now recreate that NOW. (This should be the easy part because you've 'practiced' this one even before reading this!!)

NOW ACTIVATE YOUR TRIGGER STIMULUS.

Repeat these steps another 3 times (very important).

Now you are ready.

The next time you feel a little lacking in confidence - or you experience that 'jaw clench' type Initial Stimulus, you will do one of two things:

  1. You will automatically go straight to your desired success Response State, WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT. (Well done!)
  2. You will remember to consciously activate your Trigger Stimulus and then arrive at your desired success Response State.
And now you have learned to use your own Stimulus Response Conditioning.

This is not a skill to be underestimated!

  • You can use it to improve your memory.
  • Use it to improve your ability to learn.
  • Use it to become more attractive and ACTIVELY ATTRACT your ideal partner.
  • Use it to become more of the person you want to be.
  • Use it to become wealthier.

And remember - this Instant Self Esteem only improves with practice and over time ... and lasts a lifetime. So expect the best from yourself. You deserve it after all.

All the best for your journey!

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas - Brighten and Freshen That Gloomy Old Bath

Increasing the size of a bathroom as a strategy in remodeling is rarely an option. While there may be ways to do that, it would usually require a major investment on your part. Trying to move a wall requires determining if it is a part of the structure that is required for load bearing. The placement, age and condition of the plumbing is another potentially costly factor. So to keep costs reasonable it is best to look at your bath as it is and try to improve the perception of space rather than actually increasing the space.

During a recent remodel we were able to take a small bathroom space and make it appear larger by using materials that enhance the perception of size. In the past baths frequently were put together to be practical and useful with a focus on looking more charming. Now, we want to make our bathrooms look and feel larger and that we can feel comfortable in. Let's explore some methods of accomplishing these goals without breaking the bank.

(I) Floors and Walls

The first, easiest and least expensive way to start is to look at the floors and wall in your bath with a critical eye. You are looking for ways to increase the perception of space with materials and color. Using soft, pale colors on the floors and walls will enhance the feeling of spaciousness, making the bath look and feel larger than it is. If your bath has carpet on the floor replace it with new vinyl, laminates or ceramic. You may want to remove ceramic from the walls and paint them. A nice touch is to use wallpaper border at waist high with different paints above and below. The border and accessories can be done in bold colors for accent. Accessorize with as much mirror as the bath will handle, painting a stencil on the largest wall (if this reflects in the mirror all the better) or maybe a painting of a spacious outdoor scene. All of these ideas will help give a feeling of spaciousness.

(II) Fixtures

Sinks, stools, showers and baths can make a big difference. In the remodel I mentioned above we used a rounded shower with glass doors to increase spatial perception. There are many neo-angle shower stalls available to fit different layouts. Replacing an outdated vanity with a pedestal sink will help a lot and home improvement centers have a great selection of styles to choose from. Make sure to use light colors on all your fixtures - keep in mind dark colors will stop the eye and make the room appear smaller. Again use bold, dark colors in accents and accessories.

(III) Using Light

Keep this rule in mind - more light equals the perception of more space. If natural light is available see if you can increase the size of the source. Replacing the current window with a larger one will add light and also give you an opportunity to add a more energy efficient window. Maybe you can add a skylight, this is an excellent way to bring in more light and increase the feeling of spaciousness. CAUTION: Changing a window and adding a skylight are structural changes and are likely to be costly. Also skylights not properly installed can leak and cause significant damage.

Of course if natural light is not an alternative you can change the lighting in your bath to add more light. One method is selective use of recessed cans. These fixtures can be pointed in specific directions to add light. One note here, too many recessed fixtures could cause a small bath to heat up quickly. Light bars over the mirror with 6-8 bulbs offer generous light in a small bath. Again I always recommend spending some time touring home improvement centers and lighting stores for ideas.

You can see from the few things we've discussed above that your bathroom need not be dull and gloomy. A little creativity, elbow grease and a minimum investment of time and money you can brighten and cheer it up and at the same time increase the perception of size. Have Fun!

How To Gain Self-Confidence For Real

Confidence is something that can go a long way in helping us achieve our life goals. By appearing confident we gain respect in both social and professional situations. Confident people earn more money, have more friends, and are arguably less likely to be depressed for extended periods of time.

There is a distinction between being confident on the outside versus on the inside. You can put on an act of self-assurance even on days when you aren't feeling that way inside. It is hard to do so, however, on a regular basis. And the fact that this is an act can leave you feeling empty due to the insincerity involved.

It is important to be sincere. There are those among your friends and colleagues who might fall for a front, but there are many more than you realize who will see through that. And even those who are a little disingenuous at times themselves will respect you if you are always honest and genuine.

So we've established that confidence is important, but that feigned self-assurance and false pride can be detrimental. But where does confidence stem from? Can a person just wake up one day and choose to be confident? The answer is not so simple.

First of all, yes, it is possible to make a choice to become more confident. A mindset can go a very long way in affecting not only how you feel, but what happens to you. It is said that about 80% of what happens to you depends on you (as opposed to outside stimuli).

On the other hand, no, simply deciding to be more confident is not enough per se'. You must believe it, and you must have conviction. You must make it real, you must have faith, and you must believe in yourself. Trite as that clich' always sounds, it always rings true and we all know it.

There is no denying that true confidence comes from within. The first step towards real long term confidence is a belief that you have worth. You must look within yourself and consider the good things about yourself. Focus on those and realize that you are special and unique.

But the real key can be found in the Bible which reminds us that "all have sinned." If you keep in mind that no one is perfect and that everyone has insecurities, you will relax and know that people are not better than each other after all. Admire others and aspire to be something more than you are now, but relax and know that your true value as a human being was there at birth and nothing can take that away.

Finally, keep your mind and heart set on positive things at all times; confidence will be a natural byproduct.

A Brief Brush up on What You Need to Know About Termites

In California, termites are a very prominent species of insect. Termites are wood eating insects that fall in the family Isoptera. Isopterea is an insect group which some say date back 100 million years and more. Termites as a species are very devastating due to the fact that they live so long and have colonies which can multiply with very little food. The termites peak season usually falls between the later days of February and continues into May. At this point the termites start there swarm. The Damp Wood Termite, Subterranean Termite, and the Damp Wood Termite, are all species that thrive in areas of California and appear in 3 ways, winged, soldiers, reproductive, and workers. Because termites are such a ever thriving species, termite control is a necessity, and a solid plan of attack is a must and should be started before the thriving season. A plan can prevent costly professional repairs. Boric Acid is a less costly option that may solve the problem if it is still minimal.

The more common termite control method used in California on Ground Termites, or Subterranean Termites, is chemical barrier placement; essentially putting the chemical barrier between the termites and the area (structure) you are looking to prevent from infection. After an area or structure has been infected termiticides are placed in the ground by methods of rodding, drilling or sometimes trenching. Usually the best method for ridding of the Termites is a combination of these methods, so do not try to hold out in any area if possible, because your home is at stake.

While barriers due there job in the soil, a termite can still live in the structure off the water in the wood for some time, (as long as wood is untreated) ,so wooden treatments are also often used in conjunction with the dirt applications. In California there is a seventy percent chance of a wooden structure being attacked by termites within a time frame of ten to twenty years. You can try and prevent a termite attack by spreading bait block of Boric Acid around the wooden structure. Boric Acid bait Blocks attract the termites without an excesive use of chemicals which can make it a cheaper form of termite control.

If termites are still getting into the structure after dirt treatments have been used it can be because the barrier placed was not enough and the termites have discovered and area of the barrier which has not been treated enough. If the lumber inside of the structure itself has been infected the treatment that needs to be done is the injection of certain chemicals into the wood itself in an attempt to reach the termite cluster or home. You can prevent an entire termite invasion mess by performing simple tasks such as clearing wood from the yard and ridding of unnecessary fence posts and tree stumps.

A termite invasion can more often than not be contained within a year if the proper termite baits are used. Termite baits can rid of a termite infestation by directing it's aim toward the colony itself. When soil termiticides are not the answer for various reasons such as chemical concerns around a vegetable garden or a play area, you can sometimes rid the termite invasion simply by using various termite baits such as Boric Acid. Termites find bait stations and lead the poison back to the colony. Termite baits are designed so the termite can bring the poison back to the colony whether it is in the soil or in the wood structure, and can be a wise choice for areas of potential chemical concern.

Termites can make their way into a home or structure through cracks in the cement foundation as little as 1/64 ". In the U.S. termites create over five billion dollars in damage and annihilate over 750 million in property annually. Termite control is an essential action to take as a homeowner because the termite eat 24 hours a day ( meaning they never sleep). A good control plan can vary from termite bait such as Boric Acid to the use of both soil rods, soil baits, and other soil treatment along with various baits depending on the severity of the concern. Termite colonies have there cooperation down to the "T" and are an amazing creation. Because of there tremendous cooperation the termite can build amazing things like giant structures of there own in hollowed out large trees, or transferring large amounts of soil from one area to another. So the main idea in all this is using the correct termite control and the proper prevention.

Bob Reed has been in the industry for 25 years and loves spreading the information he has collected on advanced termite bait, drywood termite treatment and termite baiting. All this can be found at the website http://www.termite-1.com

Credit Psychology - Courage And Self Control Go A Long Way

Credit Psychology

Good credit takes courage and self control. It sounds too simple, right. In fact, it's the small things that bring to pass great things. We will show you how courage and self control affect your credit.

Courage

A person with courage faces the task at hand and works to accomplish it. A coward tries to avoid facing reality and the work required to be good. In real life, how do people exemplify courage and lack thereof?

#1- Some people are afraid to open their mail. It sounds funny, doesn't it. Surprisingly, many people who are trying to avoid reality simply don't open bills. I know of one man who would put all his bills in a drawer. On payday, he would pull one out and pay it. Does this strategy seem effective?

#2- Some of us need help and don't ask. There can be a lot of reasons why we could need help besides more money. Maybe we need information on credit strategies and how credit works. Maybe we just need to write down a plan and follow it. In any case, you will feel it in your heart. If you are uneasy, have the courage to ask for some help from a good source.

Self Control

Some of us think we have it or we don't. This is simply not true. People can and do change. If you lack financial discipline, you can obtain it. How?

#1- Save money electronically. Store money in accounts that are inconvenient to use. Once you get used to not having the money the savings will pile up.

#2 - Exercise. It sounds silly, but exercise on a daily basis improves your self control. Any area where you have to exercise self control will help you in another area. Exercise happens to be one of the best ways to obtain self control.

#3 - Focus on rewards. Many of us don't do things because we think of the negative outcomes that might happen. If people will think of the rewards for their effort they are much more likely to do it. Focus intently on the rewards of financial discipline. Put forth real mental effort. When you see the great rewards ahead it will motivate you to have self control.

Knowledge

Good credit ma317nagement also takes a fair amount of knowledge.

Heat Your Living Space with A Trombe Wall, Water Wall, or Roof Pond

Indirect solar gain is one of three methods of passive solar heating, in addition to isolated and direct gain. When solar heat is collected in one area and transferred to another through the process of convection, this is the indirect method.

Here's a rundown of how it works. As with most passive solar heating systems that don't require the use of mechanical pumps or fans, heat is invited indoors through a series of south-facing windows. It is then absorbed through building materials with thermal mass, or the natural capacity to absorb heat. These materials include masonry walls or floors. When placed in a container, water can be even more effective than masonry or concrete in that it exchanges heat more quickly. Water walls and roof ponds are examples of how water containers can be used for indirect solar gain. These are described below.

Indirect solar gain uses the same strategies of heat absorption and convection as direct gain. With direct gain systems, however, the living space itself acts as a solar collector. Indirect solar gain places the heat collection system outside the living space, such as between the south-facing windows and the living spaces. A Trombe wall, for instance, is commonly located in this space. This wall, made of 8- to 16-inch masonry, with a frontal glass layer, absorbs heat from the sun from the late morning to the early evening. At night, all the warm air it generates begins to travel through the wall and into the living space. It also travels out of the air space between the wall and window through built-in vents. Trombe walls have no moving parts and require no maintenance or on-going costs, making them a popular alternative to active solar heating systems.

Water walls can be located in the same area as the Trombe wall, but the term can also apply to water containers in other building configurations. Along the wall, the water is stored in a container, which can be accented or hidden completely. Roof ponds are located on flat roofs, heating water that warms the room directly beneath the roof pond during the colder evening hours.

Self-Improvement - Bring Forth Your Creativity in Your Second Half of Life

All of us possess creativity. As children we use and delight in our creativity. One of the casualties of adulthood is neglecting our creativity. Lives become busy establishing careers, raising children, dealing with the demands of daily life. The result is that our natural creativity lies dormant.

There are ways of recapturing ones creativity and joy in living. We all need a sense of usefulness and purpose. A sense of leading lives that give us meaning. Generally after age 50 there is an inner desire to rekindle that sense of excitement, joy, and meaning in our lives. That little voice nudges us to start tapping into our dormant part and bring it forth. By relearning to tap into your creativity you can break free from the predictable and add a new dimension to your life.

When I see my 93 year old mother she is usually crocheting, At age 86 she rediscovered the joy of crocheting afghans. She now makes afghans for the ever increasing number of great grand children. She will say that crocheting makes her feel useful. Although her memory is failing the sense of usefulness and creativity is ever present.

How can you rediscover your creativity? You can go for a walk and open your eyes and ears to all that surrounds you. Look at the houses-what style are they, do they have gardens? Is the wind blowing? What else do you see? You are already opening yourself up to experiencing newness in your life. You have to cultivate your senses. Most of us have busy demanding lives and it is easy to stop seeing what is around us. How about taking a different walK? Go down a street you normally don't travel. What do you see?

Here are five ways that you can rekindle your creativity.

1. Experience your surroundings

a) stop and smell the roses

b) pay attention to what gives you a sense of wonder and excitement

c) cultivate your senses

2. Create energy for yourself

a) eat healthy nutritious food

b) value your body - exercise

c) develop a positive attitude

3. Live in the present

a) create a new mindset

b) not the past or the future but now

c) accept yourself as being perfect in the present

4. Tap into your interests

a) what did you enjoy as a child and as a teenager

b) are there things you have wanted to try - a new recipe, gardening etc.

c) your creativity will burst forth from the inside - when you get an idea take action

5. Discover what you enjoy doing

a) try different things til you tap into what gives you pleasure

b) there will be no boredom when you enjoy what you are doing

c.) by taking action you will rediscover your creative side.

Creativity is a human need. We tend to think that creativity belongs only to artists, musicians, writers, athletes, inventors, chefs etc. These people we admire for their special gifts. We all have our own gifts. By tapping into our creativity we enrich our lives.

Minor Home Improvements Will Get You A Higher Price For Your Home

There are many home improvements that are quite economical, especially if you use sweat equity, which will increase the value of your home exponentially.

In order to get the most money for your home when you sell you must look at it from the point of view of a potential buyer. There are two types of homebuyers. Those that are looking for a fixer upper, possibly to flip and those that are looking for a new home for their family. This article is based on the later, those who are looking for a new home for their family.

The most important thing to remember is that it is the first impression that remains in a person’s mind when they see your home.

The first thing to do is to drive up to your home, as a potential buyer would do (if your home can be reached from two directions, then approach the home from both). It is also important that you do this during the day and in the evening when it is dark outside. What is your first impression of your home as it compares to the homes around yours?

  • Are the lawn, gardens, bushes, and trees well manicured?
  • Is the yard cluttered?
  • How does the chimney look?
  • Does the paint look fresh?
  • Does the roof look worn?
  • Are there leaves and branches in the eve’s trough?
  • Are there any broken windows?
  • Look at the position of drapes, blinds and shutters.
  • Do all the outdoor lights work?

The overall impression that you want to convey is that the home has been very well maintained. It should also look inviting. You want people to feel that they would be proud to show their friends and relatives the home they just purchased.

Once you have arrived at your home. Park and enter the home as a potential buyer would. Do not use garage or side doors, a potential buyer will enter through your front door.

  • Do the doorbells work?
  • Are door handles tight and working?
  • Is weather stripping in good condition?
  • Can you see light from inside the home through the edges or bottom of the door?

Small things can imply that you have not taken proper care of the property.

Now that you are in the foyer of your home, what do you see? Remove clutter, such as a boots and shoes on mats as you enter. People like a bright home and you might want to consider increasing bulb wattage in all light fixtures. This is especially important in the kitchen.

Now as a prospective buyer, you will inspect the home. Studies have proven that women are sold on kitchens and bathrooms, while men are sold on family or entertainment rooms, and workshop areas.

All rooms should be painted with a neutral color, such as bone (this includes any children’s rooms that maybe currently painted with deep colors). A neutral color makes rooms look bigger. Wallpaper should be removed and the walls painted. Replace any light bulbs that don’t come on. Carpets that are stained should be replaced or removed (especially if they are pet stains).

Every room should be clutter free (clutter implies a lack of storage space and makes rooms look smaller than they are). This is of prime importance in the kitchen. Countertops in the kitchen should not be inundated with small appliances and other cooking aids.

Bathrooms must appear to be clean. Mold and mildew around tubs and showers is a massive negative to a homebuyer and it can be corrected with a few dollars in cleaners and some elbow grease. Bathroom fans that are excessively noisy, will also lower the value of a home much more than the cost of a new fan motor.

It is amazing how we can ignore the obvious and not see what others do. One way to avoid this problem is to take pictures of your home from different angles using a digital camera. Then put the pictures on your computer and look at them as a full size picture on your screen – pictures don’t lie, and you will most likely see things that you have never noticed before.

In most cases, you can dramatically increase the selling price of your home with a small investment in material and a large investment in sweat equity.

3 Reasons To Buy Vinyl Siding

Inexpensive Alternative

Vinyl siding, even with all the high-end options still remains cheaper than both wood and stone siding. When you choose to buy vinyl siding you have many options for both low and high quality materials. It is strongly suggested that you choose the highest quality materials you can afford as this will lead to the longevity of your vinyl siding. Some things to consider when choosing options include, the cost of house wrap or tarpaper, Styrofoam backed vinyl siding, and the cost of installation. These are all things that will increase the total cost of your vinyl siding, however they lead to increased efficiency and longevity; while still coming in at a lower cost than other alternatives.

Highly Durable

Although there is no question that both stone and brick are the most durable siding options, when choosing something that is inexpensive vinyl will always come in first. Vinyl never needs repainting, and when you buy new vinyl siding you'll find that its pigment is completely baked into the vinyl; not just the surface. Therefore any dance stings or scratches and be invisible. Vinyl is also more durable, and stronger than wood siding. It lasts much longer than both aluminum and wood siding.

Maintenance Free

There is zero maintenance associated with vinyl siding. When you buy vinyl siding its pigment is baked in and thus never needs repainting. It will never chip, is very dent resistant, and whether his extremely well.

The Perfect Choice for a DIY Homeowner

If you are a weekend warrior, or just an ambitious homeowner installing vinyl siding could not be easier. Depending on the size of your house it can be done in a day or a few weekends. The materials are light, easily cut, and most importantly easily installed. Vinyl siding requires no special tools, or even a high degree of skill. When you buy new vinyl siding it will come with the instructions necessary for easy installation. In fact because vinyl siding uses an interlocking mechanism to lock the panels in place you need a little more than a hammer and nails to install it.

Easily Adaptable to Nearly Any Building Style

Because vinyl siding is patterned after wood siding when you decide to buy vinyl siding you will be offered the same choices that are available in wood siding. This includes architectural elements such as soffits, fascia, and corner boards. The sky really is the limit when choosing an architectural style for your new vinyl siding.

Vinyl Siding Buzz

Vinyl siding was not always well received by the public, in fact it was looked at as a tacky and inexpensive solution for covering large amounts of houses. Nowadays however because vinyl siding has taken on so many exciting new looks and characteristics this attitude has completely changed. It is now considered a very modern architectural element that can be adapted to fit many styles.

Building Self Confidence and Self Esteem

As a hypnotherapist I specialise in helping people to develop confidence and self esteem.

Perhaps surprisingly, the people who ask for my help are not shrinking violets and their reasons for wanting to develop enhanced self confidence are not wholly selfish. Consider a few examples. The names have been changed.

John works for a large corporate. Diligent, startlingly intelligent and very ambitious, he found that his ideas were consistently overlooked. This wasnt enough of a catalyst to bring him to my door, however. He eventually grew frustrated, and then angry, that dominant individuals in his company were able to put their own ideas forward with ease. Worst of all, some of these ideas, he felt, were positively damaging, but he just couldnt make his opposition count. All his intelligence counted for little in his testosterone-fuelled working environment. It had reached the point where he felt that he should resign and start again with a fresh company; he simply didnt feel that he was adding any real value. A man of great integrity, John would rather leave than tacitly support such a wrong-headed and unintelligent approach to business.

John stayed. We worked together to identify his confidence profile, which was very unusual -- represented by less than 1% of the population. Through work on his stage presence and physical presence, we were able to significantly improve Johns effectiveness in being taken seriously, to the extent where he has recently broken through into senior management.

Jenny came to me because she was lonely. A brief marriage hadnt worked out, and she was finding serial dating to be a frustrating activity. Jenny had come to realise that she wasnt moving out of her comfort zone, either socially or at work. She feared becoming enclosed, locked into a safe routine which wouldnt threaten her, but wouldnt take her life forward either.

Jennys confidence profile was almost the inverse of Johns. Where he had masses of peer independence, Jenny had almost none, which meant that she was hugely dependent on the good opinion of others. She needed lots of reassurance, and had very little faith in her own ability or judgement.

The approach with Jenny was to strengthen her peer independence -- her ability to trust in her own judgement, independent of the views of others - and to build up her self esteem. She has now met somebody, changed her job and moved house -- all in the space of a year!

What these case studies illustrate is the complex nature of self confidence. It isnt like height or weight; you cant read off a single value which describes a person. Confidence is complex and to develop, we need to understand our confidence profile. I have subsequently made my confidence profile questionnaire available through the Confidence Club website http://www.confidenceclub.net

This has enabled me to build up an even larger database of confidence profiles, and allows people from all over the world to identify their particular areas for improvement.

Fulfilling Expectations

During a conversation with a client, I learned that his soon to be college freshman son was expected to register for only 12 hours instead of the standard 15. The universitys position was that 12 hours was the expected workload because 12 hours was very difficult even for the brightest young person. As the father was also was a former college student who experienced 15 to 18 hour semesters, he asked me what I thought? My reply would be to ask the following question to the university: If you expect my son to earn a 4 year degree in 4 years or approximately 120 hours, how can he do achieve this goal when he is only registering for 24 hours per year?

On the way back to my office, I was reminded of the self-fulfilling prophecy that Robert Merton identified in his 1957 work Social Theory and Social Structure. Merton defined this concept as when a false definition of the situation evokes a new behavior which makes the original false conception come true. In simpler terms, when an expectation is set regardless whether it is factual or not factual, we as human beings will take actions consistent with that expectation.

For my client, if he didnt challenge the expectation of the university, his son would be taking 6 years to complete a 4-year degree. Also, his son would then believe that a 40-hour workweek would be very difficult and then would take actions to support that belief.

My thoughts then turned to a scene in G. Bernard Shaws play Pygmalion when the very wise Eliza Doolittle was explaining the self-fulfilling prophecy to the Pickering, the Professors friend the difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how shes treated. I shall always be a flower girl to Professor Higgins, because he always treated me as a flower girl, and always will, but I know I can be a lady to you because you always treat me as a lady, and always will.

How often do the expectations of others and even ourselves set the stage for predicting our own future failures or future successes? Expectations are simply our thoughts. Through time, these self-fulfilling thoughts turn into belief systems that are reflected in our attitudes or what some have called into habits of thought. Each day these attitudes can provide the momentum for us to reach higher and farther or can be 500 pound weights that drag us down into deep holes where darkness is every present.

Again, the answer is one of choice. You can choose to expect more of yourself and others and you can choose not to. For me, there is only one choice. What is your choice?

What Is This Blue Lumber

Sunday night I was sitting around watching the Simpsons, my favorite TV show when I get a call from my dad. He was watching that show Extreme Home Makeover and he notice that they where building the house out of blue lumber. He asked me "Why is this lumber blue?" Confused, I was like "blue lumber?" I asked him did it look blue or was it blue, and he told me it was BLUE, the whole house. Not knowing what he was talking about I did some research, on this blue wood he was talking about, and came across some interesting facts on it.

For Starters the wood is actually called Bluwood. Bluwood is a two part, preconstruction wood protection system. The lumber has a film on it that helps prevent moister from seaping into the wood and also protects against fungus and wood eating insects.

Any lumber can be treated. The film can be applied to any type of lumber from a 24 to OSB (Oriented strand board). That means sub floor, trusses and even beams can have this film put on it. It comes to the job site pre treated and can be sawed, nailed, and painted. Since the wood is pretreated it also protects the lumber while it sites outside in the elements while the house is being built unprotected (up to 6 months).

Termites. This lumber uses an Insecticidal and a fungicidal that prevents termites and fungus from attacking the wood and destroying is structural properties. The film attaches to the fibers that the termites like to eat, thus preventing them from eating it.

The system. The first part of the two part system is the vapor barrier. The wood is engulfed in a film that creates a vapor barrier on the wood. This vapor barrier controls the absorption properties of the wood not allowing the it to absorb moisture, but I also allows the wood to breath, letting the moister within it escape. Kind of like a Tyvek Home Wrap. The second part of the system is a proven DOT insecticide and fungicide.

How it works. The two part system is applied to all six sides of the lumber which they call the infusion process. Once the infusion process is over this prevents any moister from absorbing into the wood but allowing moister to escape from the wood. Then over time the "infusion ingredients" continue to migrate below the surface of the wood so in theory the inside of the wood is treated. I never used the wood so I don't really know. I guess that when you cut the wood it is still protected. Through this process the ingredients bind to the wood at a cellular level

Less cupping splitting and curling. Since the wood has this vapor barrier on it, the film controls the rate at which the moister in the wood esc111Capes. Preventing the wood from cupping, splitting, and/or curling, which we find more often today then before because of the quick milling process. So no more going to a large home improvement store and shifting through a stack of 24s to find the 2 that you need that are straight.

Hot Tubs Marbella

In a Marbella Hot Tub the water jets should obviously be planned to provide muscle massage, but like all things, they need to be properly designed and thought out.

It is not just a question of sticking some Jets here and there in some kind of false thinking that the more Jets the better, as it simply does not work like that.

This is often the very area of design where cheap imported spas sometimes incorporate bad designs that in many case may look good but in reality are just not good for the end user. When a specific hydro therapy seat is planned, American designers have had many years experience of being able to consider the very many choices and ideas and of course have feed back from a very considerable number of satisfied clients.

With cheap imported Hot Tubs, they do not consider or give any real thought as to how the human body is going to be placed in front of the jet patterns. In more cases than not it is as if they just want it for its cosmetic appearance that is simply to make it "look attractive" a bit like mutton dressed as lamb. If one does not know about jets and how they work one can easily be fooled into thinking that more Jets are a good thing, which is not true if they are badly designed.

A multitude of many jets, which may simply look wonderful, can often prove to be painful and sometimes even annoying. One of the worst lay outs that I have seen is where the seats that have very many, (say twenty to thirty five), small penetrating jets, where all of the water from one pump can be forced through that seat. What sometimes looks good in the showroom under a spotlight can sometimes simply turn into a form of abuse.

We know a client who had a spa like this some years ago and he has told us that it used to bruise him and he had no control of the water pressure or flow of those Jets. It was of course a cheap Chinese import. In that kind of Hot Tub the client sometimes has to hang on to the sides of the tub just to stay in the seat.

If you have a reinforced concrete back, perhaps you might enjoy that kind of massag588e for us more normal mortals we need fully adjustable Jets so we can select what we need as otherwise the spa I am describing simply proves to be too much for most people.

Many years ago, various tests have been carried out on middle aged and elder citizens whereby they used a spa having this set up. All of these people and in particular the elderly people had bruises on their bodies in the same pattern as the small "bullet" jets in the seat.

These small Jets are not expensive to fit and look a spa look to have more features than it has in reality. First, directing all the power from one pump into one seat is just plain poor engineering and secondly, the spa pump is too small to operate all of the jets at the same time.

Another example of just plain bad design is the spa with large full sized vibrating jets placed in the upper neck area. The muscles contained in ones neck are small and to frank who wants to have ones neck bruised with a vibrating large Jet. Obviously, one needs smaller jets for smaller muscles.

Again the best advice remains simply is to buy a Hot Tub from a well known manufacturer with many years standing in the Industry not a cheap import from China.

Yoga Poses

If you have observed from a distance people doing yoga poses, you would think they are latter day contortionists. You could be wrong, they are wise people who have realized well in time how easily and relatively inexpensively they can keep their bodies healthy, literally fit as a fiddle.

Yoga poses are the best way to maintain the body flexible, supple and toned up without exerting any force on the body. There is a certain subtlety in this ancient eastern system of body maintenance which keeps one in tune with nature.

Modern lifestyle takes its toll in terms of physical and mental health. Hypertension and diabetes are common ailments and the beneficiaries are pharma firms. Resources that should be spent on other productive channels are wasted in shoring up a tiring body that becomes an open invitation to premature aging and a host of diseases.

Yoga has many dimensions The word yoga means union. It meant a whole set of physical, mental and spiritual exercises developed by ancient Indian yogis as a means of realizing God and being united (yuj in Sanskrit, meaning being yoked) with Him. The yogis were performing rigorous routine of meditation in forests and mountains and being scantily clad, they devised indoor exercises now known as yoga poses or yogasanas to keep their body healthy and light and make it a willing instrument of their meditation.

Over the years, yoga poses (postures) got separated from the rest of the mental and spiritual practices and has become popular as fitness yoga. Nevertheless, people who practice yoga poses derive benefits of yoga like a focused mind, self-discipline, a composed temperament and a healthy view of life.

The great repose There are a hundred yoga poses. They have interesting names like Red Indians who named themselves Sitting Bull or Galloping Horse. The poses bear names like The Boat, Crow, Peacock, Lotus and so on. The last mentioned is the pose in which the Buddha is shown seated. It is the pose developed by yogis for their meditation. Legs withdrawn and feet resting on the thighs, hands placed on the thighs turned upward with thumb and forefinger closed, the spine and neck held erect, eyes lightly closed and the normally outgoing mind gathered and centred within this is the ultimate pose of repose without and within.

But yet, before we could attain that inner repose, we have to slowly master the body through various poses and by regulation of breath which is called pranayama. Regulation of breath is said to energise the body and gradual slowing down of breathing is said to reduce the frequency of thoughts which is the necessary prelude for meditation.

The yogi among bats There is the familiar joke about bats in a cave. They were all hanging upside down as their wont. But one bat was seen standing on his feet. When the other bats asked him why, he answered, I am practicing yoga! That bat is the counterpart of the people who delight in doing the headstand, a difficult but a very effective pose for stimulating blood circulation in the entire body. Its modified and easier version, the all limbs pose is also recommended for all ages.

In a way, yoga poses are for people who want to be and dare to be different and pursue what their inner being and instinct of the body prompt them to do. It is by treating the body with respect and dignity, not by pumping iron and straining the muscular and nervous system. In the latter case, we see these people breaking down in health when they stop doing these heavy-handed exercises.

Tips for the beginner Starting practice of yoga poses is easy. But some words of caution would be necessary.

Please do not learn from the books. One should not be ones own Guru (Teacher) in matters of Yoga asanas, pranayama or meditation and one might end up worse than before. Look for qualified, committed, professional teachers. If you suffer from any ailments or bodily disabilities, obtain medical advice from your physician and from your yoga instructor as to what poses would fit in with your physical condition. Age is no bar for practice of yoga poses. You do not have to be a stripling to do it. Your yoga instructor will tell you what kind of yoga accessories and props you need. Your dress should be comfortable enough to allow you to stretch and bend freely. Like all other physical exercises, yoga poses should be done on a very light stomach and never after a meal. Fix a particular time for your domestic practice to de57Fvelop regularity and discipline Such a discipline does not go with habits like smoking and drinking which have a depleting effect on the physical system

The final test The ultimate test of any exercise regimen is: Do you feel fresh and energetic or tired and exhausted afterwards? Yoga poses pass this test in flying colours.

On the whole, regular practice of yoga poses tempers and tunes up the body, disciplines the mind and trains the will to apply itself to self-improving habits and style of life and lifts ones perspectives to a higher and nobler level of existence.

Beginning Your Yoga Workout

Yoga is less workout and more mind-body exploration. Yoga is not exactly about sweating as you push your body into exercise mode. However, the term "workout" will be used loosely for simplicity's sake.

Here is a good way to start your yoga plan. Begin with the "easy pose". Easy pose is a comfortable seated position for meditation. This pose opens the hips, lengthens the15C6 spine, and promotes grounding and inner calm. You will be sitting crossed legged like you did in school and as your teacher probably used to say "Criss cross apple sauce".

With the buttocks on the floor, cross your legs and place your feet directly below your knees. Rest your hands on your knees with the palms facing up. Press your hip bones down into the floor and reach the crown of the head up to lengthen the spine. Drop your shoulders down and back and press your chest towards the front of the room. Relax your face, jaw, and belly. Let your tongue rest on the roof of your mouth just behind your front teeth. Breathe deeply through the nose down into the belly and hold as long as is comfortable.

Downward-Facing Dog. After the easy pose, move into downward-facing dog. This is one of the most widely recognized yoga poses. Downward-Facing Dog is an all-over, rejuvenating stretch. This yoga pose is known to calm the brain and help relieve stress and mild depression, energize the body, stretch the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches, and hands, strengthen the arms and legs, relieve the symptoms of menopause and much more.

Use caution doing this pose if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, are in the late stages of pregnancy, or suffer from high blood pressure. Come onto the floor on your hands and knees. Set your knees directly below your hips and your hands slightly forward of your shoulders. Spread your palms, index fingers parallel or slightly turned out, and turn your toes under. Exhale and lift your knees away from the floor. At first keep the knees slightly bent and the heels lifted away from the floor. Lengthen your tailbone away from the back of your pelvis and press it lightly toward the pubis. Against this resistance, lift the sitting bones toward the ceiling, and from your inner ankles draw the inner legs up into the groins.

Then with an exhalation, push your top thighs back and stretch your heels onto or down toward the floor. Straighten your knees but be sure not to lock them. Firm the outer thighs and roll the upper thighs inward slightly. Narrow the front of the pelvis. Firm the outer arms and press the bases of the index fingers actively into the floor. From these two points, lift along your inner arms from the wrists to the tops of the shoulders. Firm your shoulder blades against your back then widen them and draw them toward the tailbone. Keep the head between the upper arms; don't let it hang. Stay in this pose anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes. Then bend your knees to the floor with an exhalation and rest.

Sun Salutations. On days when you think you have no time for yoga, try and do at least one or two rounds of the Sun Salutation. You'll feel the difference. After downward-facing dog, move into 3 rounds of sun salutations. Stand facing the direction of the sun with both feet touching. Bring the hands together, palm-to-palm, at the heart. Inhale and raise the arms upward. Slowly bend backward, stretching arms above the head. Exhale slowly bending forward, touching the earth with respect until the hands are in line with the feet, head touching knees. Inhale and move the right leg back away from the body in a wide backward step. Keep the hands and feet firmly on the ground, with the left foot between the hands. Raise the head.

While exhaling, bring the left foot together with the right. Keep arms straight, raise the hips and align the head with the arms, forming an upward arch. Exhale and lower the body to the floor until the feet, knees, hands, chest, and forehead are touching the ground. Inhale and slowly raise the head and bend backward as much as possible, bending the spine to the maximum. While exhaling, bring the left foot together with the right. Keep arms straight, raise the hips and align the head with the arms, forming an upward arch. Inhale and move the right leg back away from the body in a wide backward step. Keep the hands and feet firmly on the ground, with the left foot between the hands. Raise the head.

Exhale slowly bending forward, touching the earth with respect until the hands are in line with the feet, head touching knees. Inhale and raise the arms upward. Slowly bend backward, stretching arms above the head. Stand facing the direction of the sun with both feet touching. Bring the hands together, palm-to-palm, at the heart.

Feeling the benefits of yoga already? You're probably already convinced that it's your kind of thing!
